Face masks have become a good experiment everywhere. The ladies’ fashion designers and couturier are seen running their tools over them, portraying their creative skills.
Now, people can easily get face masks for every demanded occasion as the government has made it a compulsion.
Anyone stepping outside of their homes at present must wear face masks to help contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. As such, wearing face masks have been mandated by law in India, where the total COVID-19 tally has breached the eight-lakh mark already.
Several small, medium and large businesses have cashed in on the massive demand for face masks by introducing designer varieties, in multiple colours, prints, thread work, etc. However, the ones that have caught everyone’s attention at present are not only exquisite but expensive too.
The term “corona fashion” has been doing the rounds on the internet where unexpected styles which we’d otherwise consider bizarre are being sold to people as fashion statements. The latest being a pure gold face mask estimated to be worth lakhs. You read that right! While protective face masks have been declared a compulsory tool to protect people and prevent the virus from spreading, it looks like the rich and privileged have commodified it too!
FACE MASK WITH GOLD AND SILVER THREADS
A Coimbatore-based goldsmith has been designing face masks that have gold and silver thread on them, and baffled netizens are wondering who is buying these.
Radhakrishnan Sundaram Acharya, a goldsmith from Coimbatore who designs the masks using thin gold and silver thread.
Acharya told that he designed the mask to create awareness among people and emphasise the importance of wearing masks.
Though each gold mask that is made using 18-carat gold costs around Rs 2.75 lakhs, Acharya said that he has so far received nine orders.
And we are aware that a common man cannot afford to wear these masks, but rich people can use them for a royal wedding.

HYDERABAD JEWELLERS ARE SELLING FACE MASKS MADE OF PURE GOLD
Hyderabad Jewellers are selling face masks made of pure gold.
Well, if designer masks were not enough, there’s any update for all jewellery loving folks. A reputed jewellery shop in Hyderabad was the first one to come up with a unique concept. A pure gold face mask designed by their karigars and it is said to be worth a few lakh rupees. Well, it might be good news for people who have a thing for everything gold, but the mask surely does not look suitable to provide the right protection from Coronavirus.

Mujtaba Jewellers, a reputed family-run business from Hyderabad, has designed and marketed pure gold face masks for their array of privileged customers. It Is also pretty certain that there will be no shortage of people willing to invest in this piece of accessory.
The best part is that these gold masks are available in different types of designs, most of which look totally incapable of solving the purpose of a mask–protecting ourselves!

While the high prices of the face masks irked many of us a few months ago, we shelled out whatever amount the shopkeeper said, because we had no option. But now a jewelry shop is making diamond-studded masks worth Rs 1,40,000, mostly to be used during marriage functions.

These diamond-studded masks may not be the most expensive ones. A man in Pimpri-Chinchwad district of Pune has gotten himself a mask made of pure gold worth Rs 2.89 lakhs. Shankar Kurade was quoted as saying that the mask is made of gold but is pretty thin and has very minute holes in it to help him breathe. He then admitted that he isn’t too sure if the mask is going to be very effective in preventing coronavirus.

GOLD LACED COVID MASK FOR A COUPLE
This is an intricate 22-carat gold-laced mask. A couple requested a Pune jewellery shop to provide them with a gold mask for their wedding. The gold lacing has been intricately woven over an actual N95 mask. It costs a whopping Rs 6.5 lakhs. The mask weighs about 124.5 gms and can be utilised as a choker necklace as well. The 140-year-old jewelry company claims that the mask is reusable and effective against contagion.

BESPOKE COVID GOLD FACE MASK MADE OF 60 GRAMS
An Indian man said he paid Rs.289,000 for a bespoke gold face mask to protect him from the coronavirus raging in the country.
The precious metal covering weighs 60 grams and took craftsmen eight days to make, said businessman Shankar Kurhade, from the western city of Pune. It is a thin mask and has tiny pores that are helping me to breathe, Shankar said. “We are not sure if it will be effective to protect me from a coronavirus infection but I am taking other precautions,” he added.

He likes to adorn himself with gold jewellery weighing a kilogramme, including a bracelet, necklace and rings on each finger of his right hand.
Kurhade – whose company makes industrial sheds – said he got the idea for the gold face mask after seeing a media report about a man wearing one made from silver. People are asking me for selfies, he said. They are awestruck when they see me wearing the gold mask in markets.

He added, Just like every other business during this pandemic, my business too had hit rock bottom. It was then that I thought of designing silver masks and it worked out. Many customers are ordering it now and some are even buying them to be given as wedding presents.

Each silver mask weighs between 25 and 35 grams, with the price ranging Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500, similar to top quality N95 masks.
